The word Christening is not found in the Bible, but this word is often used for the baptism of children.

Baptism is a sign of new birth and marks the beginning of spiritual life that we receive through Jesus Christ. Baptism is not a guarantee of health, wealth, and happiness, but is a sign of a renewed relationship with God.

In the Bible, Jesus tells his disciples, 'Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always to the very end of the age.' (Matthew 28:19-20 ESV)

In a service of baptism, water is poured over the head of a candidate three times after they have made promises before God.  In a christening service, the parents and godparents make these same promises on behalf of the child.
